This notice explains how The Omen Report handles information when people visit the site. It should be read with the privacy information supplied by WordPress.com and Jetpack, which host and operate parts of the site.
Information that may be collected
- Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, referral source and pages viewed.
- Cookies and similar technologies used for security, site operation, analytics and preferences.
- Information a person voluntarily provides through a future contact, complaint or subscription form.
- Administrative records needed to investigate corrections, abuse reports or security incidents.
What is not currently collected
The Omen Report does not currently operate a confidential tip-upload service or public newsletter signup. Visitors should not send child sexual abuse material, illegal content or unnecessary identifying information.
How information is used
Information may be used to operate and secure the site, understand readership, respond to lawful requests, assess corrections or complaints and meet legal obligations. Information is not sold by The Omen Report.
Third-party services
The site is hosted on WordPress.com and may use Jetpack features. External links lead to services with their own privacy practices. The Omen Report does not control how those external services handle information.
Children and sensitive information
Do not submit information capable of identifying a child, sexual-offence complainant or victim-survivor unless it is lawful, necessary and specifically requested through an approved channel. If a child is in immediate danger, call 000. Report suspected child abuse through official state or territory services and suspected online child exploitation to ACCCE.
Retention and access
Information should be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, site security, editorial accountability or legal obligations. Access should be restricted to people who need it. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Future forms and subscriptions
Any future contact, complaint, tip or newsletter form must display a collection notice explaining what is collected, why, where it is stored, who can access it, how long it is retained and how consent can be withdrawn. Tipsters and contact-form users will not be subscribed to marketing automatically.
Privacy concerns
A dedicated privacy contact channel is being commissioned. The site will not pretend a secure channel exists before it has been implemented and reviewed.
